New K3 - Beachslam's first Regatta

The K3 project started in August of 2010 as a discussion on the dingy docks, almost two years later and I've just sailed my K3 'Beachslam' at its first regatta - and won.  Woohoo.  The project has been a blast as we've moved from stage to stage designing, building tooling, a prototype, pre-production (Beachslam!) and production - delivering hull 4 outside the circle of the K3 project teams.

This boat is awesome, black, shinny and fast.  I would never have been at this point without the efforts of a LOT of people in Toronto and our friends Dave A and CST in Australia!  Paterson Composites is a premium carbon shop and their attention to the details really make the boat stand apart.  Steve has been involved every step of the way and his signature of performance, quality and unique design appeal is all over the boat.  Finally thanks to the tireless efforts from my K3 partner Jason, crew John and the dozens of suppliers and volunteers that made it all possible.

Onto some video:

Its not always pretty, but its always a lot of fun.  Dr. Squeege took some time compile a number of those moments from our last season.

Winter Program

In past winters I've done sailing in a sunny destination but this year is a little different.  If you've been following the K3 blog, seen the recent pictures on facebook or noticed that I haven't been around in the evenings or weekends (sorry Erin), you know I'm getting a new K3 I14 for next year.

On Monday Patterson Composites started building my boat using the design and build specifications that Jason and I have been developing with Steve Killing for over a year!  And I've been known to show up in the shop and get my hands into the carbon and glue too.  Three days later and we already had the first part out of the mould.

Its been a BLAST working with all these people who are so dedicated to making this the highest quality, fastest boat in the world! And having a lot of fun doing it too.
